This week’s featured tool from JewelryTools.com is the BUR-261.80 Wooden Handle Wire Rounder, 1.8 Millimeter Cup Bur. This easy-to-use hand tool is used for taking the sharp part at the cut end of a wire, called a burr, or bur, and smoothing it to a safe edge. This deburring technique is especially useful for finishing ear wires and other wire ends that may rub against the skin. You can find this product on JewelryTools by searching for BUR-261.80, or simply click on its picture at right. |

Thank you! I have one of these tools and never knew what it was for – now I know.

I have one of these cup burrs, too. What size wires does the 1.8 mm tool work on?

Hi Linda, great question! This cup burr will work on wire up to 14-gauge. If you check out the “AWG to Inches and MM Chart” at the bottom of this page, you’ll see that 1.8mm is right between 14- and 12-gauge. You want the cup burr to be a hair larger than the wire you’re working on. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Rose. I think the one I bought at my LBS several years ago is defective. I’ll have to get a new one when I put in my next order here.

Thank you! I have a cup burr but thought you could only turn it one way! You learn something new everyday, thank you!
