Skill Level: Intermediate

Technique: Involved components, Half round wire

Here's another way to use half round wire! Make this pair of lightweight earrings that you can dress up or down, and still have fun wearing them! If you want the loops to be larger, just add an inch or two to each wire used.

Tip: Make both earrings at the same time, working one step on one earring, and then the same step on the other.

Materials

  • 16-gauge half round half hard wire, 30", cut in the following lengths:
        Two pieces 6" long
        Two pieces 5" long
        Two pieces 4" long
  • Medium-link chain, 11 3/4", cut in the following lengths:
        Six pieces 1 3/4" long
        Two pieces 3/8" long
        Two pieces 1/4" long
  • One pair ear wires

Instructions

  1. Measure and cut the needed lengths of chain and set them aside. Straighten, clean, measure, and cut the necessary lengths of 16-gauge half round half hard wire. Mark each piece 3/4" away from each end.

  3. Wrap one 6 inch wire around an object that has a circumference of 4 1/2 inches, until the ends cross at the 3/4 inch marks. Use chain nose pliers to grasp the wires where they cross and twist twice, to lock the shape in place.

  4. Repeat Step 3 on the other 6 inch wire. In the same manner, wrap each 5 inch wire around a circumference of 3 1/2 inches and each 4 inch wire around a circumference of 2 1/2 inches.

  5. Use round nose pliers to grasp one end of the wire and fold it, back and down, to hang inside the circle. Form a loop at the end of this wire. Grasp the top end of the remaining wire and form a loop in the same direction. This will be the top circle of your earring. Repeat on the other 6 inch wire loop.
