Technique: Working with chain, making wrapped loops

You'll have so much fun making these earrings! Use your favorite Swarovski Crystals to match coordinating beads.

Instructions

  1. Cut the small chain into four pieces.  Two will be 3.25” and 2 will be 2.25. 

    Add the ear wire to the middle of the longest chain. Repeat for the second earring.

  2. Using Swarovski Crystals, make 4 closed loop drops.  In one color make the drop 4 wraps down, in the other color 2 wraps. The number of wraps change change, but one color should definitely be longer to keep the drops from being the same length. Set aside. .

  3. Cut the 18 gauge wire in half. Use  your small round nose pliers and make an open loop. .

  4. Swing open the loop and slide on the components as follows, the last loop of the small chain, the longest crystal, the shortest crystal and then the end loop of the longest chain (the one with the earring wires).

  5. Close loop. Slide on focal bead.

  6. Make another open loop in the second end of the 18 gauge wire.  Trim wire if necessary. Repeat the assembly of the components, in the same order. Make sure that the ends of the open loop are facing upwards. Tighten the loops if necessary.

    Repeat for second earring. Add a finishing patina if you like, or wear your earrings shiny. Enjoy!
