Cougar Sensation Pendant
Skill Level: Intermediate
Technique: Square wire, jump rings
This piece is inspired by Dale "Cougar" Armstrong and her family. Seeing another strong woman keep herself together so well and take care of her family with her daughter, Skye, who
was in so much pain and Dale's husband Charlie [both Skye and Charlie endured major surgeries in 2011 -ed.], as well as doing her job teaching her students and taking care of her home: that is a sensation, a sensational woman, an Inspiration to all.

Instructions
-
Cut 8 pieces of 21-gauge square wire, each 4 inches long. Cut 2 pieces of 21-gauge square wire, each 3 inches long. The 3" pieces will be wrap wires.
Twist 4 of the 4" wires with your automatic wire twister or pin vise.
-
Make a taped bundle with all 8 of the 4" pieces, arranging twisted wires where you like. Measure and mark the middle at 2 inches, and then mark at 1/4 inch on either side of the middle mark. Wrap on a 1/4" mark, 3 times to show, with a 3" piece of square wire toward the center mark. Trim and flatten the wrap wires. Repeat on other side.

-
Hold your flat nose pliers against the middle mark and press the wire down over the jaw.

Next, take round nose pliers and press the 2 middle wires in the bundle up, so that they slide out from the bundle - as shown:

This will be the bail. Trim the wire ends flush, they will measure about 1-1/2" from end to wraps.
- Fan the ends of the wire from the wraps. Make a loop with round nose pliers at the end of each wire, making the loop toward the center (so that both loops will face each other).

-
Open the 16 jump rings. Pair the wire ends so that each wire has its two end loops together, then place a jump ring through the loops, and close the jump ring.
Continue placing a jump ring on each wire end loop pair until each has a jump ring.

-
Take your 10" chain and cut the following lengths (based on a 5mm chain link):
Two 4-link lengths
Two 5-link lengths
Two 6-link lengths
Two 7-link lengths
One 2-link length
Beginning with a 4-link chain, open a jump ring, place it through an end chain link and the jump ring of an outer wire of the wire bundle. Close the link. Continue in this manner in the following pattern: 4-5-6-7-7-6-5-4. Now each wire end loop should have a jump ring connecting the loop pair, and this jump ring should hold another jump ring, and this jump ring should hold a length of chain.

-
Optional: Take the 2-link chain, open one link, and through the 2 bail wires from the middle of the bundle. You can now thread your neck cord, wire, or chain trough the chain link and finish the pendant.
