DISCOVER WATER CASTING
IN THIS 10 MINUTE PROJECT

In just 10 minutes, Kim St. Jean will show you how to melt scrap silver, pour it into water, and transform it into organic, flower-like castings that become a beautiful pair of earrings.

Supplies You’ll Need:

Extra Tips from Kim to Make Casting Easier:

  • Use about a foot of 16-gauge silver wire — enough to make 10–12 castings for earrings.
  • Turn your torch down small when working with delicate ear wires.
  • Watch the flux: when it turns gummy, that’s the perfect time to apply solder.
  • Focus your heat on the heavier puddles and draw solder toward the finer wire.
  • Smooth ear wires with a cup burr for comfort when worn.
  • Save every clipping — even tiny scraps can be reincarnated into new castings.
