Starting out with Wirework - Chain Cost Cutting Tip
When you're first starting out in jewelry making, particularly metals and wire, the cost of materials can blow you away! Over the years you'll add more and more to your supply stash but in the beginning you have to buy everything from scratch. So, cost cutting tips and deals are great to explore!

One of the earliest ways I experimented with keeping supply costs down was using chain for the top portion of my necklaces. When I use precious, semi-precious stones or expensive materials in my necklace designs, I use these elements only on the bottom portion of the necklace-the part that actually shows when worn. I then finish off the necklace with chain. I did years of surveying my customers asking what they preferred: the entire necklace of components (at twice the price) or half components and half chain (and half the price). 99% chose the half and half design. So many of my customers have long hair that ends up covering the top portion of the necklace anyway. Another comment I heard many times was how much more comfortable it was to wear the chain portion touching their necks, especially if the necklace is wide or has bulky multiple strands.
Keep your eye out for sales on chain and grab a bunch for your necklace designs!
