Shielding a Jewelry Piece When Stone Setting
by Judy Larson
Here's an easy way to keep from marring the metal in your piece while you're using a bezel setting tool.
Instructions
When setting stones, bezel setting tools can damage the jewelry piece as well as the bezel and stone. To have one less thing to worry about and to avoid tool marks on the jewelry piece, cut a small piece of tag board or note card to fit the bezel curve. Using it as a shield, move the piece around the bezel as you work on shaping the bezel over the stone. The slight thickness of the shield will protect the jewelry piece so all you have to worry about is being careful with the bezel and stone.
