This idea came about because I needed to find a way of wet sanding that didn't hurt my hands. Using small pieces of sandpaper or holding flat sanding sticks tends to place a lot of pressure on the joints of your fingers. I have found with this round sanding stick that if I make it small enough to fit nicely in my hand I don't need to apply a lot of pressure and my hands are much happier. Here's what you'll need: Flexible plastic cutting boards, different grits of wet sandpaper, scissors, and tape.
This sanding stick is made out of a flexible plastic chopping board. You simply cut a strip of sandpaper to the length you want. You may need to experiment a little to get the right size. You can choose how wide you want the strip to be, this will depend on what you are sanding. Simply tape the ends together on the inside of the sandpaper to form a circle with the abrasive side on the outside of the circle. Roll up the board so it fits inside the sandpaper circle and when you release the board it will expand to fit the sandpaper perfectly. You can further customize this idea by cutting the board to a different size so that it can be slimmer or shorter.
You can also use this board with small sanding belts which are already formed so you only need to slip them on.
These plastic boards are often sold in a pack with different colors so you could color code your sanding sticks so you know at a glance which one you want.
