Nylon Hammer Remodel
I was at my bench, hammering away to flatten some sterling sheet for a backplate, in preparation of soldering on a bezel. I noticed some marring on the metal. As you can imagine, this freaked me out. It was brand new sheet metal.
Instructions
I inspected the bench block and while it has some dings, it wouldn't have impacted the top of the sheet metal. Next was my nylon hammer.
As you can see, I've used it well and it is pretty beat up. I never realized that my non-marring nylon hammer could mar the metal.

So, what do you do??? My solution? I took a rough-cut file and filed down the top.
It worked fairly well, but as I have a jewelry polisher, I gave that a go as well. It took some maneuvering but managed to get a good 80% cleaned up.
As you can see, I have a very good result. I'm now ready for another 5 years of hammering.
Just a note, don't forget to maintain your tools. Refinish your hammers. Scrub away rust. Oil the machines.
