Nylon Hammer Remodel
I was at my bench, hammering away to flatten some sterling sheet for a backplate, in preparation of soldering on a bezel. I noticed some marring on the metal. As you can imagine, this freaked me out. It was brand new sheet metal.
Instructions
I inspected the bench block and, although it has some dings, they wouldn't have affected the top of the sheet metal.
Next, I checked my nylon hammer.
As you can see, it's been well-used and is pretty beat up.
I never realized that even a non-marring nylon hammer could still mar the metal.

So, what do you do??? My solution? I took a rough-cut file and filed down the top.
It worked fairly well, but as I have a jewelry polisher, I gave that a go as well. It took some maneuvering but managed to get a good 80% cleaned up.
As you can see, I have a very good result. I'm now ready for another five years of hammering.
Just a note don't forget to maintain your tools.
