Making Ribbon Wire
by Judy Freyer Thompson
Looking to flatten wire but don't have a rolling mill? You could use a hammer. Don't like the look of hammer blows for the piece you are designing? Enter the Pasta Machine. Many of you may know that you can use a pasta machine to flatten wire, but of course the use is limited. I have two pasta machines; one that I use to really make pasta, and the second to make ribbon wire. I picked up the second one at my local thrift store.
Instructions
Loosely coil up a length of wire. Anneal the wire on a soldering brick.

Set the pasta machine on the setting which will easily accept the wire gauge you are using and pass the wire through. Hold the wire with a little tension on it to keep it straight.

If you wish to pass the wire through again to make a thinner ribbon wire, anneal as in Step 1. Adjust the pasta machine to the next setting and repeat Step 2.
