Make Your Own Torch Oven

I save my used charcoal blocks and use them to build the oven.

The picture shows three charcoal blocks forming the sides, with a fire brick as the base and another fire brick as the back wall.

Space the side charcoal blocks far enough apart to fit a trivet inside. Part of the trivet should hang off the base brick so you can position the torch underneath.

You cannot always move the torch under the entire piece. In some cases, you may need to turn the trivet after the first firing to reach the other side.

This step is not always necessary and depends on the size of the piece.

In my opinion, the charcoal blocks reflect the torch heat back onto the piece and help capture more torch power. I've been able to bring pieces to maturity with this small oven when I couldn't achieve it using my usual method.

It is important that your charcoal blocks are free of debris so nothing falls onto the enamel piece during firing.

I take my blocks outside and either rub them on concrete or use a knife to scrape off any loose charcoal.
