Make Your Charcoal Block Last

by Alix Railton
Every time you use your beloved charcoal block, it seems to deteriorate. They are definitely more fragile than a fire brick, and cost more, too. Here's a couple ways to make your charcoal block last longer.
Instructions
Here are a couple of quick tricks to preserve your soldering block.

You probably know to wrap it with binding wire to keep it together, but did you know you should keep a small spray bottle filled with water nearby?

Every time you turn off your torch, spray your block. This cools the heat inside and helps your block last much longer.

It's an easy habit that will save you money and frustration over time.

When wrapping your block in binding wire, cut twice the length you need and fold it in half.

Hook the fold onto a cup hook attached to your flexshaft, then run it slowly. This twists the wire and creates a strong brace to hold your block securely.

Do these two things and your block will last you a whole lot longer.
