Here's a couple of quick tricks to preserve your soldering block.
You may already know to wrap it with binding wire to keep it together, but did you know that you should keep a small spray bottle filled with water nearby? Every time you turn off your torch, you should spray your block. This will douse the heat within and make your block last a whole lot longer. It's an easy habit to get into, one that will save you money and aggravation in the long run.
When you go to wrap your block in binding wire, cut twice the length you need and fold it in half. Then, put a cup hook in your flexshaft and, hooked to the fold in your wire, run it very slowly-This will twist your wire, giving you a good strong brace to hold your block.
Do these two things and your block will last you a whole lot longer.
