Earring Findings for Different Ages

Why is it a good idea to have different options for earring findings for your customers? With aging, collagen and skin elasticity decreases. This aging process is one reason that earlobes thin and elongate. Of course, this permanent elongating is helped along through the years by often wearing larger, heavier earrings. Having different earring findings on hand for different client needs can help sell a product. And, not everyone likes the same earring findings.
Instructions
These earrings were made with gold colored Silver Plated Copper Craft Wire for class demonstration purposes almost 15 years ago, when I still had thicker earlobes. The gold-plated purchased ear wires were only on the earrings a year before they started changing color and causing earlobe irritation. Those ear wires were then switched out for hand-made gold-filled ear wires. The new ear wires were a perfect color match for the gold craft wire and caused no irritation. The hoops would swing a bit on the ear wires, but since the hoops were not heavy, it did not seem to be a problem.

Five years ago the plastic/silicone ear nuts started to became more and more difficult to slip on the ear wires as dexterity issues can also be a part of aging. They were switched out for gold-filled lever back earrings which I loves as there was no more hunting for those little ear nuts. And finally, with thinning earlobes, the swinging of the hoops seemed to pull on my ear lobes. It was time for a final switch to gold-filled ball earrings secured with large gold-filled ear nuts. These studs with larger ear nuts to secure them will pull less on the ear lobe when heavier elements are attached to them. Who knows, I may change them even more by adding small gold beads to the sweep of gems to tie into the ball stud.
Little Info Tidbit: You know how some people have lip filler injections to make their lips fuller? I was surprised to learn that some people do the same to their earlobes! Makes one wonder why as it will not change the size of a stretched-out hole, which occurs at the same time as a stretched-out lobe from wearing heavier earrings.
