Avoid Flying Wire
by Karen Meador, Ph.D.
We likely all know what happens when you flush cut a small piece of wire off of a piece of longer wire. It goes flying. It seems to me that the shorter the cut piece the farther it goes.
Instructions
If you've taken a wire-working class, you likely know that we try to avoid shooting wire at others or at ourselves, but do you remember to avoid that at home? I'll admit that sometimes, in my haste, I've forgotten and paid the consequences. Those little pieces have flown into my arms, against my face and, worst of all, onto my husband when he's in near proximity (Not Good!) They can also fly up into your eyes and do some real damage.

I trying to remember to always position the cutters, clamp them onto the wire to hold the position and then cover this placement with the hand that isn't holding the cutters. Then, when I snip that wire, it bounces off my capped hand and falls on the workspace. This soon becomes a habit and helps save everyone from flying wire.
