Argentium Sterling Silver
Argentium Silver is the most important advancement in silver to date and my personal favorite white metal to work with.
I've been using Argentium Silver wire since it became available in 2005.
Living in a high-tarnish area of the U.S., I left a finished Argentium piece on a shelf for a year.
It developed only a slight blonde tint in spots, which I easily wiped clean with a t-shirt piece.
By contrast, my sterling silver tarnishes black within weeks.
Research shows that using an ionic cleaner or polishing cloth will keep Argentium Silver sparkling for years.
Last year, David Federman, Editor in Chief of Colored Stone magazine, interviewed me about my use of Argentium wire.
He explained why Argentium is tarnish resistant:
"Although germanium oxidizes faster than copper, it does not discolor like copper. Instead, it turns transparent and forms a protective barrier against further oxidation. Argentium does not prevent oxidation, but because oxidized Argentium is lighter in color, it doesn't have the black appearance of traditional tarnish. The alloy allows silver to stay whiter longer and makes its shine easier to restore."
