Consistency is so important when making ear wires. Having the same size loops and curves add professional look to any design. I used copper wire for the purpose of demonstration but copper is too soft of a wire to make good ear wires. I use half-hard sterling silver wire, 20 gauge for all of my ear wires.
Instructions
I love the Eurotool Acculoop Looping Pliers are a pleasure to work with to make perfect ear wires. Two and a half inches makes a great length for a tidy ear wire.
At the end of the pliers is marked at 2mm, make a loop at that point
Move to the 8mm line and curve the wire around the pliers.
Move the pliers to just below the 2mm loop and bend back towards you.
Trim the wire.
The final steps to the perfect ear wire is to work harden the top curve of the wire.
Pro Tip: Work hardening the wire will stiffen the ear wire, add a spring back, therefore making it less likely to bend out of shape.
