A Weighty Matter

by Susan LeGuyader
While in the studio, I came up with a new twist on the classic hoop earrings. Sometimes, it is hard to manipulate the clasp of a hoop earrings. So I made a "Hoop Not a Hoop" earring, with a simple ear wire and same classic shape. The look of the hoop without the fuss. Patterned sterling wire makes these "Hoops" a great looking pair of earrings.
Instructions
There are always challenges, when making pretty well anything. After making these hoops, I realized they looked the same, except they weren't quite lining up. I couldn't be certain they were the perfect and I like to have the most professional looking product that I can produce.

Now, I could file, fiddle, sand, hammer, and adjust for HOURS! I did not want to do that and a light bulb went off in my head.

And I remember one thing that can always tell you exactly if your pieces are exactly the same.... The scale! OMG, I thought I was a genius. LOL. Really, though, the scale is almighty equalizer, even in metal.

So, I weighed each piece and found out that they are exactly the same weight. The rest is history, no sanding, just shaping. And a pair of un-Hoop earrings are made.
