Step 1

Use a ruler for freehand work.

Or print a scripted font for lowercase "joy."

The final pendant measures 2.5" wide by 1.5" long.

Scale up or down as needed.

Smaller sizes are challenging-practice first.

Cut a 10.5" 20 gauge wire segment.

Turn a loop in one end of your wire.

Work with the curve of the wire.

Use the printed template to help you as you begin to form the letter 'j.'

Using your 1/4" dowel as a guide, form the swoop of the letter 'j.'

Continue using the template as a guide to form the letter 'o.'

Form the upper portion of the letter 'y.'

Use chain nose pliers to bend the wire.

Form the side of the upper portion of the letter 'y.'

Step 9

Bend wire down at a 90-degree angle.

Use flat nose pliers to compress the wire together.

Form the upper right side of the letter 'y.'

Step 10

Using your 1/4" dowel as a guide, form the swoop of the letter 'y.'

Step 11

Finish forming the letter 'y.'

Use round nose pliers to form a loop in the end of the wire.

This completes the word 'joy.'

Step 12

Cut off any excess wire with your flush cutters and adjust with your chain nose pliers.

Step 13

Use your chasing hammer to flatten the wire, avoid hitting the areas where the wire crosses over itself.

Step 14

Use the round end of the chasing hammer.

Add texture to the word.

Avoid hitting areas where the wire crosses over itself.

Step 15

Wrap wire and beads on each letter.

Cover points where the wire crosses over itself.

This reinforces the wire and adds texture and sparkle.

Begin with three wraps at the top of the crossover on the letter 'j.'

Step 16

Add a pearl to the wire.

Wrap it across to secure.

Follow the photo as shown.

Wrap the wire around the bottom of the pearl once.

Then move to the next bead.

Add a 2mm crystal to the wire and wrap it around the base wire one time to secure the bead.

Step 18

Add a 4mm crystal to the wire and wrap it around the base wire one time to secure the bead.

Step 19

Wrap the wire one more time around the base wire.

Step 20

Cut off excess wire with flush cutters.

Tuck the tail under securely with chain nose pliers.

Repeat steps 15-20 for two more three-bead sections.

Place them over wire crossovers on 'o' and 'y.'

Use one round bead per section order is your choice.

Attach your 8" chains to the pendant.

Use 5mm jump rings and chain nose pliers.

Close jump rings with tension to prevent them from coming apart.

Step 22

Attach a jump ring and clasp to one open chain end.

Attach a jump ring to the other chain end.

Use chain nose pliers for both.

Opt to stop or add a beaded dangle to the bottom of the letter 'y.'

Add a 2mm crystal, 2mm faux pearl, and 4mm oval bead to your head pin.

Grasp wire at top of beads with your round nose pliers and bend wire over at a 90 degree angle as shown in the photo.

Move your pliers up a half step.

Wrap wire over pliers to form a loop as shown in the photo.

Coil the wire tail using your chain nose pliers to grasp and pull tightly as you wrap to the top of your top bead.

Step 28

Cut off excess wire with flush cutters.

Tuck the wire tail into the coil with chain nose pliers.

Step 29

Use chain nose pliers to attach the beaded dangle.

Secure it to the bottom of the letter 'y' with a jump ring.
