Step 1

Start by making ball pins.

Ball up the ends of the wire with a butane torch.

Or use ready-made ball pins.

Step 2

Select the gemstone chips you want to use.

Check that the drill hole is fairly central in each chip.

Step 3

Add a gemstone chip onto the wire ball pin.

Step 4

Pick up the pin in the jaws of the round nose pliers.

Push the gemstone chip toward the ball of the pin.

Step 5

Bend the pin to one side over the jaws of the round nose pliers.

This creates a small space between the gemstone and the bend.

Step 6

Reposition the pliers so that the jaws now sit above and below the bent pin.

Step 7

Create a loop by wrapping the wire over the tip of the round nose pliers.

Bring the tail of the wire pin around the bottom of the loop.

Wrap the wire back around the front of the pin.

Continue to turn the wire, in half turn motions around the neck of the pin.

Step 11

Wrap the space between the loop and the gemstone chip with the wire.

This forms a secured wrapped loop.

Cut off any excess wire with flush cutters.

Tuck in the end of the wrapped loop firmly.

This prevents any sharp ends.

Step 14

Straighten the loop so that it sits directly on the top of the gemstone chip.

Repeat to make multiple gem-chip charms.

For this bracelet design, make 50 wrapped loop pins.

Step 16

Cut a piece of Tigertail to your desired bracelet length.

Tigertail is a nylon-coated, multi-strand stainless steel wire.

It is strong, flexible, and ideal for bead stringing projects like necklaces and bracelets.

Step 17

Add 10 pin charms to the center of the Tigertail wire.

Thread the Tigertail through each loop at the top of the pins.

Work from the center outwards for an even, balanced look.

Step 18

Thread a bead onto the Tigertail on each side of the central cluster of charms.

Step 19

Add on additional beads and spacer beads to this middle section of the bracelet.

Add 10 more gem-chip charms.

Use a bead stopper to prevent the beads and charm loops from falling off.

Step 21

Add another 10 charms to the opposite side.

Step 22

Place a bead after each charm section.

The beads push the tops of the loops together.

This creates clusters with the charms.

Add more bead and spacers to complete this section of clusters.

Add 10 more charms to each side of the bracelet.

This creates 5 cluster sections in total.

An odd number of sections forms a central point at the front.

Add the beads in the same pattern as before to complete this final section of clusters.

Add any extra spacers or beads to fill the required size of your bracelet.

Step 27

Position a calotte to the end of the Tigertail, so that the loops are facing outwards.

Slide two crimp beads to the end of the Tigertail.

Double crimping makes the bracelet extra secure.

Crimp the crimp beads with crimping pliers.

Or flatten them to the Tigertail with pliers.

This secures them in place.

Step 30

Slide the calotte up over the crimp beads.

Position them in the rounded section of the calotte.

Fold the calotte over them and press it closed with pliers.

Ensure the loops are aligned.

Step 31

Slide all the beads and charms up underneath the secured calotte.

Create a curve in the bracelet.

This achieves nice tension.

Step 32

Add a calotte and crimp beads to the opposite end of the bracelet.

Flatten or crimp the crimp beads.

Secure the calotte to the Tigertail.

Trim off excess Tigertail wire close to the last crimp bead.

Fold over and press down on the calotte with pliers to close it firmly.

Attach jumprings to the calottes, by securing them through the calotte loops.

Attach the clasp to one of the jumprings.

Hook it onto the opposite end of the bracelet.

This closes it up.

Add an extender chain with a decorative wrapped loop charm.

This makes the bracelet adjustable.

I'm Natalie Patten, I'm from Liverpool in the UK. I first discovered my love of wire work during lockdown and this hobby quickly spiralled into a huge passion and obsession, for wire wrapping crystal gemstones. So much so, that I changed my career working in education, to become a jewellery designer and set up my business Rock, Scissors, Paper specialising in wire wrapped, ethically sourced gemstone jewellery. I also secured my dream job designing and teaching for the UK's largest supplier of beads for jewellery making!
