Instructions

Step 1

Create a small loop at the end of one 10" segment of 18 gauge wire.

Step 2

Use your round nose pliers like a mandrel to create another loop directed up towards the top loop and then over through the middle of the piece.

Step 3

Do the same on the opposite side.

Step 4

(Optional) Lightly hammer the loops flat.

This will help the wire retain its shape as well as add dimension.

Step 5

Again, place the round nose pliers on the wire you intend to bend a little off to the side of the previous top loop.

Step 6

Repeat the last step on the opposite side.

Step 7

(Optional) Hammer the loops you just created.

Step 8

Continue steps 5-7 until you have 4 outer loops on either side that gradually gets wider towards the bottom.

Step 9

Next, use your round-nose pliers to create a swirl at the bottom of the tree.

Step 10

(Optional) Hammer the swirl for added dimension and/or texture.

Step 11

(Optional) VERY lightly hammer the entire tree to flatten it slightly.

Step 12

Here's what your tree should look like at this point.

Step 13

(Optional) Now, take a 3" segment of 20 gauge wire and hammer the end flat to create a paddle.

**Note: You can use headpins instead of following the next few steps.

Step 14

Use a file to soften the edges of the paddle.

Step 15

Next, string on your beads. 2mm at the bottom, 4mm at the center and 6mm on top.

Step 16

Place your round-nose pliers at the top of the beads.

Bend the wire at about 45 degrees to the side.

Step 17

Use your round nose pliers to create a loop at the top.

Step 18

Wrap the excess wire around the top part of the wire until it reaches the bead.

Step 19

Cut off the excess with your flush cutters.

Tuck the wire with your chain-nose pliers.

Here's what your dangle should look like.

Hang the beaded dangle from the spiral at the end of the tree.

Gently use your chain-nose pliers to tighten the swirl so that the dangle doesn't come loose.

And here is the finished tree! Just repeat all the steps above to create a matching earring!
