Keep a variety of sizes of different textured stack rings on hand to use as gifts. Make yourself a bunch of them to wear on different fingers. Stacking many together with a focal ring gives the look of a wide band ring.

To ensure exact replication of the width of the ring band, a certain length of wire needs to be cut, usually several sizes smaller than the desired finished size. Having a table of sizes and wire lengths on hand can be helpful, especially when making lots of rings.

Instructions
Step 1
Read through the tutorial before starting the project. Follow all safety precautions pertaining to the tools and supplies being used and the space you are working in.

Straighten a length of 14- gauge round wire at the end of the coil. Use an ultra fine point retractable Sharpie to mark the wire at lengths needed for the desired ring size. If a more heavily textured ring than the one shown here is desired, cut the wire length for the next smaller size.

Step 2
With the flat side of the flush cutter facing the coil, cut the wire on the line. One end of the ring wire will have a flush cut. The other end will have a pointed end. The pointed end to be filed off is accounted for in the length.

Step 3
Place the pointed end of the wire in the smaller of the "V" grooves in the 90 degree jaw. The full pointed end must be protruding enough that the wire end can be filed flat. Repeat with the other end of the wire where only a sliver of wire needs to be filed flat.

Step 4
Use a Wrap N Tap pliers to round the wires into a ring shape. Use flat nose pliers to bring the ends together in a "D" ring shape with the ends flush. Sometimes it helps to push the ends slightly past each other while pushing the ring down in the palm of the hand. When the wire ends are pulled apart, they should spring back together, touching.

Step 5
Place the 14 gauge rings on the Solderite board, paying attention to where the seams are. To fuse, move the flame around the ring. Carefully heat each until the wire surface goes from dull to very shiny and slightly molten. The seam will connect and fuse. Immediately remove the heat. Cool the rings slightly before removing them from the soldering surface. Hint: Practice on two small rings so you can see the stages progress.

Step 6
Gently press the ring down the length of the mandrel. If the join breaks during this step or the next, straighten the wire and file the ends again. Reform and fuse the ring again. Gently tap the ring with a nylon or rubber mallet to make it round. Hint: Store rounded fused rings and cut wires in labeled bags to finish later.

Step 7
Inspect the rings. As needed, use the rounded side of the Grobet ring file to clean up the inside seams on any rings.
Step 8
Texture around the ring lightly with a slightly domed face chasing hammer, enlarging half way to the desired size. Turn the ring over on the mandrel. Finish texturing until the ring band touches the top edge of the desired size.

Step 9
Place the ring on a bench block. Use a Mini Tru Strike Planishing Hammer to lightly texture both sides of the ring.

Step 10
If the rings are darkened from fusing, pickle and rinse them before continuing. Tumble the rings for several hours to bring up a shine.
