Instructions
Step 1
Read through the directions before beginning. Note: Save all the metal scraps, no matter how tiny, for the last project.

Scale the design template up so that the bottom left link is 5/8" wide and 1" long. The templates between the two rows are sized to fit the 1" and ¾" links. Turn the templates into stickers. The template shows the approximate size of many of the discs and washers used as embellishments.

Step 2
Attach each sticker to an appropriate piece of 24- or 26-gauge sheet. Cut each piece out of sheet. Use a disc cutter to cut the discs and washers.
Step 3
Throughout the tutorial, flatten all the pieces after cutting and refining the edges.

Step 4
The brass "O" ring needs to be soldered in place on the toggle link. Pickle the piece after soldering. Refer to Mixed Metal Sampler Bracelet 3 for directions to attach the "O" ring.
Step 5
Place the "O" ring toggle link on a bench block. Dividing the washer into four quadrants with an ultra fine point retractable Sharpie makes it easier to use the Mini TruStrike Sharp Designer Hammer to hammer even lines radiating out from center.

Step 6
The moon shaped brass pieces for the "O" ring toggle are cut from the piece of brass left over from cutting washers for the toggles. Slide the leftover piece into the disc cutter until a moon shape of metal shows in the 5/8" disc cutter hole. Cut the shape out with the 5/8" punch. Repeat several times. Choose two to use that are similar in size.

Step 7
Butter the backs of the moon shapes with copper paste solder. Place the moon shapes, solder side down, as seen on the "O" ring toggle link. Place a small amount of solder on the back of a 4mm bezel cup and attach on top of the two moon shapes where shown. Place small dots of solder on either side of the bezel cup on the copper link. Place a tiny 1.8mm disc punched out of a jump ring corner into each solder dot.

Step 8
There are many ways to make a fun T-bar for this bracelet. A piece of decorative brass wire was used here. You may wish for a more designer look. Refer to PREPARING THE BRACELET LINK PIECES-Part 2 for directions for finishing the T-bar.

Step 9
Sand the backs of one 4mm, one 6mm, and one 8mm bezel cup. Optional: The 8mm bezel cup sits inside a twisted jump ring. Place a small amount of paste solder on one side of the jump ring. Press it in place, solder side down. Place a small amount of paste solder on the back of the 8mm bezel cup and press it down inside the ring, solder side down. Place a small amount of solder on the back of the two remaining bezel cups and press into place, solder side down. Use the 1.8mm hole punch to cut small discs from a piece of scrap brass. Flatten the discs. Place small dots of solder on the link where the brass discs will be attached. Press the discs into the solder.

Step 10
Use a disc cutter to cut a 5/8" washer with a ¼" center hole from a 24 or 26 gauge textured copper piece in the same manner as cutting a washer for the toggle. Also cut a 3/8" washer with a ¼" center hole from 24 or 26 gauge silver or nickel silver. Cut several 1/16" wide strips of 24 or 26 gauge brass. Texture the strips with a Mini TruStrike Sharp Designer Hammer.

Step 11
Butter the back of the silver or nickel silver3/8" washer with copper paste solder. Center it, solder side down, over the hole on the textured copper washer. Press into place. Place paste solder randomly around the copper washer. Cut and flatten pieces of the textured brass strips a bit longer than needed. Press the brass pieces, texture side up, into the paste solder, pressing the end against the silver washer.

Step 12
Solder the pieces in place. Pickle, rinse and dry the piece. Use flush cutter to cut away the excess brass. File and refine the edge. The piece may need to be lightly flattened. You now have a designer washer.
Step 13
Butter the back of the back of the designer washer. Center it, solder side down, on a 1" bracelet link. Press into place. Place a small amount of paste solder on either side of the washer. Cut and flatten two pieces of brass longer than needed. Press one into the solder on either side of the designer washer, pushing the end against the washer. The center hole on the 20 or 22 gauge bracelet link can be punched out after soldering, if desired, using the ¼" punch with the 7 Holes Metal Punch.

Step 14
After drawing the wonky shape on a piece of 24 or 26 gauge brass, I hammered the piece of wavy wire I found on a walk into it to impart texture. Cut the shape out and flatten it. Butter the back of the brass piece and center solder side down on a 1" bracelet link. Place dots of solder where the two 3/32" silver or nickel silver discs will be placed. Push the discs into the solder.

Step 15
The 9/16" brass disc does not quite fit inside the jump rings on the ¾" link. Use an ultra fine point retractable Sharpie to mark the disc in relation to the jump rings. Use shears to cut triangles of metal almost out on those sections. Use the tips of chain nose pliers to twist the triangles the rest of the way off the disc. Use a triangle file to remove metal randomly around the edge. Keep checking the fit of the disc inside the jump rings on the link. When done, file and refine the edges of the disc. Flatten the disc.

Step 18
Use any tool with a flat bottom that can be hammered into the center of the disc to make a flat section. This flat section makes for more solder contact, thus a better solder join. If this is not possible, sand the disc until a small flat section appears. Ball a ½" piece of silver. Place a dot of copper paste solder in the center of the brass disc and in the center of the silver or nickel silver cupped disc. Place the balled silver into the solder in the cupped disc. Place the cupped disc centered in the solder on the brass disc. If you are not using silver, dome an 1/8" nickel silver disc, place paste solder inside the dome, and place cut side down in the center of the cupped disc.

Step 25
Place each embellished link onto the soldering surface. Heat each piece separately until a flash of silver is visible when the solder flows. Immediately remove the heat and go on to the next piece until all are soldered.
Step 26
Place the links in a pickle pot with super pickle until the fire scale is removed. Rinse the pieces. Some people like to place the pieces in baking soda water to neutralize the pickle and then rinse them. Dry the pieces before going to the next step.
Step 27
Use a soft bristle brass or steel brush on each piece.
Step 28
Use flush cutters to trim away the excess metal.
Step 29
Trim off the corners of each link using a flush cutter. Use metal shears to trim away the excess metal at the top of the washer on the "O" ring toggle piece. File and refine each piece so there are no sharp edges that can scratch the skin or snag on clothing.
Step 30
Place the links in the tumbler with shot, water and a drop of dish detergent. Tumble for several hours and they will come out bright and shiny. Note: The cabochons will be secured in place after the bracelet sections have been patinated.
Pro Tip: Hold off on doing any patina to the pieces until all the bracelets sections are done.
