Lariat Necklace

To begin this design, create the drops that will hang from the leather cording.

Thread each bead onto a headpin.

Use the flat nose pliers to create a 90 degree angle with the headpin at the top base of the bead.

Use the round nose pliers to make a loop at the base of the bead.

Holding the bead in one hand, use the flat nose pliers to wrap the wire around the base 2 times.

Once all 3 beads are wrapped, use the wire cutters to cut off any remaining wire, close to the base.

Use the flat nose pliers to tuck in any sharp edges.

Cut 2 pieces of the 20 gauge wire into 2 inch pieces.

Use the flat nose pliers to fold one end of the wire up about 1/4 of an inch.

Fold one end of the leather cording up to about 1/2 inch.

Place the wire in-between the leather fold.

Hold the wire and leather cording with the flat nose pliers.

Begin to wrap the wire tightly around the leather cording, binding the leather end together.

Once the wire is wrapped all around the leather cording, tuck the end of the wire into the center of the leather.

Add any 2 decorative beads to slide onto the leather ends.

Make the second wire wrapped end. This fold will hold the jump ring with the beads attached.

Open 3 jump rings to attach the beads to the leather loop ends.

Use one jump ring to loop the wire bead top, then the jump ring through the center of one leather end.

Close the jump ring. Repeat for the other end.

Use the final jump ring to loop through the wire bead top, then catch the jump ring around the center of the leather cording. Close the jump ring.

To wear, wrap like a scarf around the neck. The central bead will hang from the center of the neckline, while the ends can simply dangle, single knot over each other, or drape down the back.
