You can use size 20 or 18 gauge wire for this design. Both work equally as well. Dig through your seed bead stash and find cute red, white and blue seed beads. The only requirement is that the holes are big enough to fit onto your jump rings. The wire working design is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it with the first few links.

Instructions
Step 1
Start by cutting pieces of 7 cm wire - one per link (I used 26 links so it fit over my head).

Use the nylon jaw pliers to straighten the wire if needed.

Make sure to flush cut both ends.

Step 2
Then, using the tip of your chain nose pliers, make a kink in the long portion of the wire right where the loop starts.

This is just like creating a headpin.

Repeat for the other wire end in the same direction.

Step 3
Next, with the loop openings facing to the right, place the 2nd jaw of the barrel pliers in the middle of the wire and bend around the jaw.

Step 4
Keep bending the wire ends until the loops meet up.

Step 5
Push the bottom loop underneath the top loop and continue to wrap until they completely wrapped around the jaw.

Step 6
Remove the wire from the pliers and place it on the pliers backwards.

Step 7
Wrap the wire around the pliers jaw again making a second loop.

Cross the bottom loop over the top loop.

Step 8
Bend the wires until the loops are completely stacked on top of each other matched up.

Step 9
Make 26 links

Step 10
Open a jump ring and add a seed bead, wire link, seed bead and another wire link.

Close the jump ring and you have connected 2 links together.

Step 11
Continue adding new links to the necklace until you've used up all your links.

Connect the first link to the last link closing up the necklace.

You could add a clasp to the necklace using jump rings if desired, I chose to keep it simple and slip it over my head.
