Instructions

Step 1

Take two lengths of 0.8mm/20 gauge round wire, approximately 17cm in length for each earring.

Step 2

Place bail making pliers (or round nose pliers) and position them 2cm down from tip of the 0.8mm/20 gauge wire and create a wrapped loop

Step 3

Tuck in the end of your wrapped loop securely

Add on three of the 6mm round beads

Step 5

Bend the 0.8mm/20 gauge wire into a right angle, leaving a space of 5mm from the last bead

Step 6

There will be approximately 11cm from the bend to the tip of the 0.8mm/20 gauge wire to wrap a coil around using 0.4mm/26 gauge weaving wire

Step 7

Create a coil of approximately 6cm in length (to do this, I've used approximately 50cm of 0.4mm/26 gauge wire, however you can leave this on the reel or bobbin to ensure you have enough to coil the wire and wrap around the beads.)

Step 8

Trim off the starting tail of the 0.4mm/26 gauge weaving wire, and ensure this is tucked in and that your coil is pushed up so that it starts at the bend in the 0.8mm/20 gauge wire.

Step 9

You can cut your 0.4mm/26 gauge wire from the reel at this point, once you have coiled the wire for the length needed or once you have wrapped around the top bead to ensure your coil is long enough.

Step 10

To wrap your coil around the bottom bead, curve the coiled wire around the side of the bead and then around the back of the earring so that it is facing the direction in which it came

Step 11

Continue to bring the coiled wire around the middle bead, so that the coil is hugging the opposite side of the middle bead and bring around the back of the earring and wrap around the front of the earring again, ready to wrap the top bead.

Step 12

Remember when making the next earring, to bend your wire in the opposite direction when making the 90 degree bend (or turn your earring to the opposite side) and wrap around the beads in the opposite direction, to create a mirror image.

Step 13

You can now wrap the remaining, uncoiled 0.8mm/20 gauge wire around your wrapped loop and trim off and tuck in to secure, or use the remaining wire to create a swirl with your round nose pliers.

Step 14

Your earrings are now ready to attach onto earring hooks, or even a jump ring to make a matching pendant.

I'm Natalie Patten, I'm from Liverpool in the UK. I first discovered my love of wire work during lockdown and this hobby quickly spiralled into a huge passion and obsession, for wire wrapping crystal gemstones. So much so, that I changed my career working in education, to become a jewellery designer and set up my business Rock, Scissors, Paper specialising in wire wrapped, ethically sourced gemstone jewellery. I also secured my dream job designing and teaching for the UK's largest supplier of beads for jewellery making! I make lots of different jewellery designs with a variety of techniques but my absolute favourite is wire work and I feel absolutely blessed that I can spend my time creating, learning and sharing my passion with others!
