Instructions

Step 1

Materials and tools for this project are shown on this picture. For the base I will use 18ga (1mm) wire, for the weave 26ga (0.4imm) wire. This faceted, pointed back stone is 15mm tall.

Step 2

Cut a 10 inch (25cm) long base wire.

Step 3

Bend the base wire in half as shown on this picture.

Step 4

Continue to bend the base wire ends to the opposite directions until they cross over each other, making a 0.5cm tall loop with the center of the wire.

Step 5

At the point where the wire ends cross over each other, separate them a little bit, as shown here from the bottom view.

Step 6

At this crossing point, hold the right wire end tight between the chain-nose pliers, then bend it slightly to the right side direction.

Step 7

Repeat the same step with the left wire end, bending it to the left side direction.

Step 8

Move the recently bent points close to each other, as shown in this picture.

Step 9

Cut a 4 inches (10cm) long weaving wire of the 26ga (0.4 mm) wire. Wrap the initial end of it 2 times around the bent wire ends, to connect them.

Step 10

Behind the wires, cut off the short extra end of the weaving wire.

Step 11

Position the stone between the 2 wire ends, 0.5cm below the top loop.

Step 12

Now bend both wire ends around the circumference of the stone, leaving a maximum 0.5cm distance between the bent wires and the stone.

Make sure that the left wire end crosses OVER the right wire end, as shown with the colored line.

Step 13

This is the result we must get. Here you can see that the right wire end crosses BEHIND the left wire end.

Step 14

Hold the left side of the wire structure tight between your fingers, then make a 1cm tall oval loop with the left wire end, as shown here.

Step 15

Cut a 4 inches (10cm) long weaving wire of the 26ga (0.4mm) wire. Bend it in half.

Step 16

Insert one end of the weaving wire inside the recently made oval loop.

Step 17

Take the right end of the weaving wire, wrap it 2 times around all wires at the bottom of the wire structure.

Step 18

Now wrap both weaving wire ends 2 times around the lower side of the oval loop.

Step 19

Behind the base wire, cut off both weaving wire ends, then pressure them with the chain-nose pliers, until they are completely closed.

Step 20

Position your stone over the oval loop, as shown here.

Step 21

Bend both base wire ends upwards, bending them tightly over the circumference of the stone and crossing them over each other over the top end of the stone.

Step 22

At the point where these 2 wire ends meet with the circumference of the wire structure, hold them one by one with the chain-nose pliers, then bend them 90 degrees backwards.

Step 23

Bend the right wire end completely to the opposite direction (behind the wire structure). Pressure the bent part of it with the chain-nose pliers, to close it a little bit.

Step 24

Repeat exactly the same step with the other base wire end. Switch to back view, this is the result we must get.

Step 25

Depending of your design variation, if the wires are positioned far from the top loop (which will be the bail of the pendant), you can cut off the extra weaving wire end, otherwise wrap it 2 times around these 2 crossing wires then cut it off.

These 2 wire ends must cross over each other over the top of the stone (on the back as well). Make sure that both wire ends are 2cm long, measuring from the top of the stone, cut off the extra wire ends.

Step 26

On the right side (back view), bend the base wire in a way that you can insert it into the wire structure, taking it to the front.

Step 27

Switch to front view. Very slowly pull the wire end to the front, then with the help of the chain nose pliers straighten it as much as you can.

Step 28

Repeat exactly the same steps on the other side as well.

Step 29

Hold the wire structure in front of you, then bend these 2 wire ends all around the stone circumference, as shown on this picture.

Step 30

On the right side, hold the wire end tight within the chain-nose pliers, then bend it backwards, making a loop with it around the lower wire of the wire structure

Step 31

Switch to back view. Pressure the little loop around the lower base wire, until it is completely closed

Erika Pal

Erika is a self-taught artist who began to experience wire wrap art in 2016 while she was traveling around Europe with her family. She began to create decorations and wire masks, but her interest was quickly complemented by the creation of jewelry of all kinds. She likes all kinds of styles, from art deco to classic, from the simplest to the most extravagant. In 2018 she opened her online store to teach wire training for all levels of students, and since then all of her free time has been dedicated to this passion. Since last year she no longer travels, but lives with her family in the middle of nature, with her own garden and her animals. Her dream is to travel all over the world to teach in person as well.
