Chunky Chain Maille Keychain

Place 4 closed rings on an open ring and close the ring. Add another ring in the same place going through all 4 rings. To make it easier to start this pattern wrap some scrap wire around these 2 rings.

With your skewer go through the 2 middle rings of the 4 rings and pull them slightly away from the other 2 outside rings. The 2 outside rings will form a V shape. Take an open ring and go through both of the outside rings. Make sure you go through these rings at the end that is closer to the base of the V shape. Now with the same open ring go through the 2 middle rings where the skewer is holding them. Close the ring. By going through different sides of the 2 sets of rings they are now held apart to form the pattern. The outside rings are held to the left and the middle rings are held to the right.

Flip the piece over so the other side is facing up, now add a ring in exactly the same way as the last ring by going through the 2 outer rings near the base of the V shape towards the left hand side and then through the 2 middle rings where the skewer is, toward the right hand side of the rings. Close the ring. Take the skewer out, now there are 2 V shapes.

Add an open ring to the 2 rings that are in between the last V shape. Add another ring in the same place.

Now the pattern is back to the same spot as the beginning of step 2 with 4 front rings, but now the 2 middle rings are separated from the outside rings and you don't need the skewer to set them apart. So as in step 2, with an open ring go through the 2 outside rings at the end near where the V meets. Now go through the 2 middle rings on the right hand side to hold them in place, and close the ring. As before flip the piece over so the other side is facing upwards and add another ring in exactly the same way as before by going through the 2 outer rings near where the base of the V is on the left, with the same open ring go through the middle rings on the right hand or outer side to hold them in the pattern, and close the ring.
