Step 1
Fold a 12" length of 24-gauge wire in half and twist it tightly, using the 1" (25mm) grid in the photo as a reference for how tightly to twist it.

Cut the coil into jump rings, as each pair of earrings will require two closed twisted wire jump rings.

The backing for each earring made here should be 7/16" x 9/16" (11mm x 14mm) in size.
The size sheet needs to accommodate the 6mm ID twisted wire ring and the 2mm ID jump ring.

Use an ultra fine point Sharpie to mark the sheet in the center of each twisted wire ring.

Use a center punch to create a dent for the drill bit, place the earring backing on a scrap piece of wood, slowly drill the hole, ensure the ear post fits through it, and, if necessary, carefully enlarge the hole with a bead reamer.

Stamp the metal content below the hole on the back side of the earring backing.

The center ball of each earring is made with 7/8" piece of 18 gauge wire.

After the ball is made, determine how many beads of a 1.5mm ball chain will be needed to surround the ball.

Push the post of a 6mm flat pad ear stud through the hole in the earring backing.

Layer easy solder on top of the earring pad in the center of the assembly.

After 30 seconds or so, the earring assemblies can be removed and set on a bench block to cool.

Tumble the earrings for about an hour to achieve a shine, apply a liver of sulfur patina, remove it from the high areas, backs, and posts to create a brushed satin finish, and, if desired, tumble again for up to 30 minutes to restore the shine.

Close two 18-gauge 2.5mm ID jump rings, file a curved area at the top of the twisted wire vein on each leaf to fit the outer curve of the jump ring, apply medium paste solder in the curve on each leaf, and place them on a soldering surface.
