When Nancy Chase set out to design a piece that captures the shift from summer to fall, she turned to the rich tones of handmade clay beads. The result is a glowing mix of copper, silver, and gold, linked together in a bracelet and earring set that celebrates the season's natural warmth. In this design, Nancy shares how thoughtful metal choices and bold color pairings create jewelry that feels as cozy as autumn itself.

Instructions
Step 1:
Starting With Making The Earring Set

Before You Get Started:

Choose the beads you are going use for the earrings. If they have a pattern, choose a pleasing, similar pair of beads. If they are handmade, they may not be exactly alike - making them all the more unique and special.
Step 2
Begin by threading the eye pin through each bead, leaving the "eye" at the base of the bead.

Use round-nose pliers to create a simple loop at the top of each bead.

Cut off any remaining wire.

Open 4 jump rings. Attach a jump ring through each eye at the bottom of the earring. Close each jump ring.

Attach one jump ring to each loop at the top of each earring.

Step 3
Slightly open the ear wire to loop it through the jump ring.

Gently close the ear wire.

Repeat the process with the second earring.

Step 4:
Moving On To The Bracelet
To begin the bracelet, cut six pieces of 18-gauge wire into 2-inch lengths.

I'm using flat clay beads about 1 inch in diameter.

For any bead size, cut the wire so there's a 1/2inch length on either side of the bead.

This allows enough wire to create loops large enough to fit two jump rings.

Center each bead in the middle of its wire piece.

Step 5
Use flat-nose pliers to bend each end of the wire at a 90-degree angle, opposite each other.

This technique lets me hold the bead and one wire end steady in one hand while forming the loop with the other.

Step 6
Use the round nose pliers to make a simple loop on each end of each bead.

Step 7
After making loops on all your beads, lay out your desired design.

I used two basic colors, orange and green.

Arranging them in an orange, green, orange, green sequence creates a pleasing, symmetrical pattern.

Step 8
Open all 12 jump rings.

Use some jump rings to attach the toggle clasp.

Place two jump rings between each bead.

Place one jump ring between the ends of the beads and each end of the clasp.
Step 9
Start at one end of the bracelet and use two pliers to close each jump ring through the clasp ends.

Next, add two jump rings to each end of every bead to form the chain.

Close all the rings completely to ensure a smooth fit on the wrist.

Adjust the bracelet to fit comfortably.
Step 10
Your bracelet and earrings are now complete!

Discover The Color Inspiration Behind This Pattern

When Nancy Chase stopped by a sunny pumpkin festival in Kentucky, a pile of colorful gourds sparked more than just fall nostalgia, it inspired a jewelry design idea.

Captivated by the natural shapes and imperfect patterns, she translated those autumn tones into a handcrafted clay bead bracelet that celebrates color, texture, and the beauty of "perfect imperfection."
