A New Twist on the Classic Ear Wire

Cut a length of wire, around 5". Use either chain nose or round nose pliers to make a loop and then coil it a couple of times. At the bottom of the coil, make a right angle. With bail making pliers or loop making pliers, make a loop about an inch from the bottom of the coil. Wrap the coiled end around the long length of the wire a couple of times. As you can see from Photo 3, the coil and the loop are on the same plane, you can also rotate the loop to be perpendicular to the coil. Finish with the rest of the ear wire making. The flourish should rest up and flat against the earlobe. For the second ear wire, make sure you wrap around the opposite direction.

Cut a length of wire, around 6 or 7". Fold over a length of wire to make a tight folded end. Make sure the short end of the wire is long enough to make the shape and wrap around the longer wire. You'll spread the parallel wires apart (this makes the tapered point of the leaf) around the looping pliers. Make your loop as in the instructions above. Finish making your ear wire as usual.

Cut a length of wire, around 8". Using your round nose pliers, make difference side loops, angled to the left and right, into a meandering pattern. You can make this section as long or short as you like. How would it look long and going up the curve of your ear? As with the above instructions, make your loop and finish the ear wire as usual.

I find this new kind of ear wire so exciting. Decorating your ear, not just from the lobe down but up onto your earlobe and more. There are so many opportunities, what about soldering a tube set gemstone? It would give the look of two piercing, instead of one. I have too many things going on in my head. I need to get out to the studio.
