Color Inspiration - Wire and Ice
Deep in the cold Hidden Valley of Pennsylvania, the ice dripped from houses and trees, fences and mailboxes, bushes and lamp posts. On a winter walk through the woods I captured the ice melting from gutters of a roof line. Catching sunlight, reflecting bright streams of many different-sized icicles along the exterior.
I can still feel the bracing chill of the afternoon wind.
The damp, wet sound of melting ice echoed as it dropped from above sometimes startling in its weight.
Tiny drops from icicles dotted the snow beneath.
This photo inspired me to design a clear glass, wire-wrapped beaded necklace on a silver chain.
It's finished with a lobster clasp, capturing the crisp elegance of winter's quiet melt.

Looking to emulate the droplets of water dripping from icicles, I chose a graduated strand of smooth clear glass briolette beads.
Each delicate bead was wrapped with silver wire, forming a loop to attach to the chain.
I arranged the beads from smallest to largest, centering the biggest briolettes in the middle of the design.
These are side-drilled (or top-drilled) pear-shaped beads, with holes near the top/sides.
Using small jump rings, the wire loops were secured to the chain.
A lobster clasp felt fitting after all, lobsters roam cold waters.
Stay warm, and look cool in this wire-and-ice color combination.
