Color Inspiration - A New Path
by Kristal Wick
I was fortunate enough to teach and attend the Tucson Gem/Mineral/Bead shows for 12 years. It was always spectacular, rocks and gems as far as the eye can see and you must put it on your bucket list if it's not already there! My fave part of attending is shopping (of course) but that always tied with education and I learned so much from the talented instructors I met. Whether it was taking an official class or booth demos, you left with a throbbing head (in a good way), bursting at the seams with inspiration and new techniques learned.
This was the case with the lovely Eugenia Chan who was demoing in the WireJewelry booth one year. She is a master wire worker and even developed her own wire working tools. I spent a long time in that booth mesmerized by her creativity and she kindly created the focal piece in my necklace from scratch showing me how to enamel (the main part of the pendant) and wire wrap all those cute curly swirls.
The most inspiring season is fall and here in Colorado we're covered in green-turning-into-yellow foliage for about a month. I packed up my pups and we took a road trip through Guanella Pass, Colorado. We took a long delightful walk down this path and yes, it was as magical as the picture looks! With all the uncertainty and chaos in the world around us, sometimes we need a creative mental health day to break out of our funk and find a new path. Hopping in the car for a road trip and walking along this beautiful path represented that very thing for me.

I loved how the pendant perfectly matched the colors in my picture and used my golden colored handcrafted silk beads with dragonflies, rough pearls, Swarovski pearls, jade and seed beads to create separate links with loops on each end. I then attached all the link loops together to create the necklace.

I hope you find your own new path and continue on the creative journey!

Creatively,
Kristal
