Steven James Discover Torch Enameling: Etched & Enameled Barrel Bead

Come show off your torch enameling skills and creativity! Reminiscent of Tibetan Prayer Wheels, these beads can hold any personal connotation by using the etching and enameling techniques you have learned. In this class, you discover how simple, satisfying and affordable it is to make your own personal barrel beads. Students will etch custom-cut copper tubes, create enameled bead caps, and solder them into place.

Supplies needed (not all-inclusive):

  • 1 Deco Art Oil-based paint pen or another form of ferric chloride resist
  • 1 cup of Ferric Choloride and small plastic container, such as a small cup
  • Penny Bright Copper Cleaner and Sponge
  • 3 - 1/2" diameter Copper Tube Component
  • 6 - 3/4" inch copper discs
  • 1 tube of easy solder (low melting point) in class I use Copper Bearing Solder-It
  • Enamel in various colors
  • Klyr Fire Enamel Adhesive

Note: If you have challenges working with and seeing small components, a magnification tool may be helpful.
