Mastering the Half Persian 4 in 1 Chain Maille Weave

The position of the rings to begin this chain is important. Hold the single gold ring that has the 3 copper rings hanging from it and set the rings down on your work surface with the 3 rings in a step pattern with the right hand ring on top. They should naturally fall into this pattern. Take the left hand ring and flip it over so the opposite side is now facing upwards and place it under the edge of the next ring so it is on the bottom of the step pattern.

With an open gold ring go down into the space where the copper rings 1 and 2 cross and come up in the middle of the 3rd copper ring, add a closed copper ring and close the ring.

Each step in making this chain adds an open gold ring and a closed copper ring. Focus on the last 3 copper rings named 1-3 from left to right. Weave a ring down through the space where rings 1 and 2 intersect and bring the ring up through the third ring, add a closed ring and then close the ring. The copper and gold rings form the 2 distinct lines or planes of the weave. A gold ring never goes through another gold ring and the same with the copper rings. Both planes, the gold and copper, keep to the step pattern. The gold rings step pattern goes down so the last gold ring added is on the bottom of the step pattern. The copper rings step pattern is up so the last ring added is on the top of the step pattern. The order of the step pattern, whether it is going up or down will change when you flip the chain over, what matters is that it continues to be the same throughout.
