Featured Instructor: Lilian Chen

Lilian Chen

Lilian Chen has used stringing, knotting, weaving, metal and wire techniques before to make jewelry, but she’s best known for her unique wire jewelry style, accented with beautiful Swarovski crystal beads. In fact, Lilian counts Swarovski Elements as the one thing she couldn’t make jewelry without! Lilian is an official Ambassador of CREATE YOUR STYLE with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. Lilian says, "I love challenges, and the variety of types of wire give me more inspiration to create more interesting designs."

While Lilian’s taught in several countries across the world, she’s looking forward to being one of the instructors hosted by JewelryTools.com again at the JOGS Show this February. "This is the one time a year," she said, "that I can meet my sponsor friends, Facebook friends, old friends, new friends, new products, new designs: this is my fantasy world, where once a year, I spend my happiest time with my fans."

What do I tell students? Watch what you are doing, think about what you are going to do, make what you decided to, with less time, less materials, and make an interesting design. -Lilian Chen

Lilian’s flowing, structured style of wire jewelry looks organic and spontaneous, but it’s fairly planned. In fact, if you notice in many of Lilian’s pieces, you only see joins or ends of wire when she wants you to! Could you imagine wrapping a cabochon without showing any wire ends? (Or have you already done it?)

Lilian loves to design, but she also loves meeting and sharing her gift with students. She said, "I love to teach jewelry making. Not only do the students learn from me, I also learn from them. This keeps me improving on my teaching projects all the time, by adding more interesting, new products, making more projects more attractive for my students."

We are lucky have Lilian Chen as one of the JewelryTools.com instructors this year in Tucson, Feb. 1-12, at the JOGS Show in Tucson, Arizona!

I love Lilian’s work. It is so inspiring and I am amazed every time I see her work, it is as if the wire tells HER what to do. I am so depressed that I haven’t been able to do any of these shows :( because I am poor but let me know how it goes!
