Daily Wire Jewelry Making Tip for
July 19, 2011

Question:

Hi, can you please recommend a beginner wire DVD or book to learn the basics? Thanks.

-Susie in Sagle, Idaho

Answer:

Hi Susie, the best DVD set to learn the basics of traditional wire jewelry design and how to utilize those techniques taught into satisfying projects is our Beginner Series. As a progressive instructor, I designed these DVD projects to teach the basics and how to use them. By starting with DVD 1 and continuing on to #2, #3, etc., you will be able to totally understand and execute all of the skills necessary to become a confident wire jewelry artist!

Of course if you would like to learn the art of coiling and weaving, then I would suggest our new DVD series by Albina Manning, Coiling & Weaving Wire Jewelry Designs. This series will teach you the basics of using mainly round wire to create lovely wire jewelry pieces.

If either of these options is a bit more expensive than you would like to “test the wires,” then you may wish to purchase a single class from Online Wire Jewelry Classes. Whichever way you choose to learn, have fun!

With only two more projects to finish the Advanced DVD, I can completely endorse the entire series of projects/lessons. Starting with the simplest techniques, moving on to prongs and exploring all aspects of wire work, the recorded classes are almost as good as the real thing. (I was also able to attend one of Dale’s classes last Spring.)
If you’re interested in getting started in wire wrapping, the beginner dvd is the way to go.

    Hi Susie,
Dale is an excellent teacher; her instructions and measurements are very precise. When you take a class with her you will come away with the knowledge that you need in order to complete a piece of jewelry from beginning to the end. Her instructions are very clear, understandable, and easy to follow; she does not leave out any steps. Dale loves to share with others and she wants all of her students to succeed. I took my very first wire class with her and have worked with her for about 8 yrs.
    You are in good hands.

Your local public library is always a good resource.

Well I am going to throw in my nickels worth as well. Dale wants you to succeed. She wants you to be able to create and sell your jewelry and she wants you to know the correct ways to go about making a piece of hand crafted wire jewelry you can be proud of.

Her dvd’s are an investment for your endeavors to be able to produce your own one of a kind pieces built on the framework of techniques she teaches you in each of her dvds. Not a waste of money but a definite asset to your future.
