Great article on copper! As someone who creates jewelry using this mineral, I appreciate the historical facts concerning its use in jewelry and elsewhere. The health benefits regarding copper are also extremely interesting. I have a BS in Natural Health and appreciated that information – whether or not one believes in it. Thanks for the thorough article.

Thanks so much for the story on copper. I have always used copper and have loads of it, my husband is a Master Electrican. Until I read your story, I did not put alot the knowledge I knew about copper together. Your samples were wonderful and again gave me new inspriation for designs. Again thanks for all the “extra” information you give to us.

I have been using recycled copper wire from old Motors as well as wire coil Magnets found in old TVs, Radios & Vacuums for over 20 years. Over the years I have found a few wire scrappers who were willing to part with unique colors… an incredible array of Enameled shades in round, square & even flat magnet wire with Gauges ranging from 12ga to 32ga.
Depending on the application even in areas where the enamel is damaged the color & finish change can add depth & a Vintage feel to pieces.
I have also re-used Bronze welding wire for frame work & structure in stand-alone sculpture pieces, although it requires considerable hand/finger strength & tough pliers you can get some great dimensional shapes from 18ga – 22ga… pieces that will hold their shape without deforming & maintain shape under tension.
I’ve also used the wire from Jiffy-Pop Popcorn packages, wire mesh screen & Twist ties for craft projects with children.
