Joe Korth is a jewelry artist and metalsmith from Denver, Colorado. He was born in Berkeley, California in 1979. His first exposure to jewelry creation was in a high school art class. Joe continued his education at Eastern Michigan University where he earned a B.A. with a dual major in Philosophy and Literature.

After completing his degree in 2002, he moved to Denver and began to explore his love for the arts. He has devoted himself completely to jewelry since 2004. Joe has been an instructor at the Clear Creek Academy in Denver as well as the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was an Artist-In-Residence from 2011-2012. Joe is currently the President of the Colorado Metalsmithing Association (COMA).

Joe’s Classes:

Perfect Polishing

When it comes to creating a stunning and exceptionally crafted piece of jewelry, the most important factor is often the quality of the finishing. In this workshop you will learn proper techniques for creating a perfect mirror-finish on your jewelry pieces. Additionally you will learn about a variety of different wheels and attachments that can be used on the flexshaft to create satin and matte finishes (if shiny isn’t your thing). Safety will be discussed and you will have an hands-on opportunity to play with the techniques you will have learned.

This is a great class for those who want to learn the basics of Silversmithing and take their jewelry to the next level. You will learn to saw, file, sand, solder, polish, and fabricate silver jewelry while making a beautiful pendant with a bezel-set stone. The goal of this class will be to teach you proper silversmithing techniques and about fundamental jewelry making tools, so that you can leave the class with an ability to go home and work on your own. Materials, including silver and stones, will be provided, but students will need to bring tools.

Joni Kisro:

JKNew

I’m a native Tucsonan (but it’s a dry heat). I’m married to a wonderful man who’s retiring soon and will be joining me at my studio. I’ve been making jewelry since high school and became a silversmith at the age of 21. Over the years, I made and showed my jewelry at craft fairs in Colorado, California and Southern Arizona.

I adopted two beautiful baby girls, which are all grown up now. Brianna is 28, she just graduated Aveda Beauty College and works at Potter USA jewelry tools as their Marketing Manager. Brittany is 25, she’s a Blackhawk Flight Combat Paramedic in the US Army, stationed in South Korea. I was a stay at home mom which gave me time to develop my jewelry making skills. I now make and teach various jewelry techniques and have been teaching metalsmithing, chain maille and many other jewelry classes for more than 15 years.

I demoed the Jump Ringer, jump ring cutting system for Ray Grossman at Rio Grande Catalog inMotion during the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show for 15 years. I also taught chain maille workshops for Rio Grande during the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. I started working for Kevin Potter at Potter USA April 2014. What a great job, I really loved it! I designed and drew several pancake die shapes which are up on his website, as well as many that are still in the line up to be made!

I designed a bracelet bender when I was 21 years old which my friend made for me out of a piece of pipe and a wooden block. I showed it to Kevin and suggested that he make them and put them on his website! He loved the idea and makes them out of aluminum. I also make several step-by-step jewelry making videos that are on YouTube! My job at Potter USA ended in February of 2015. That was a very sad day, although when God closes one door, he opens another. Now I’m the proud owner and creator of Get Hammered Metalsmith Studio LLC where I teach metalsmithing, silversmithing, etching, torch enameling, delft clay casting and chain maille.

A few of Joni’s Classes:

This stunning bracelet is a variation of the byzantine chain maille weave. It incorporates smooth and twisted wire jump rings to have that beautiful, but a bit bold look!

In this class you’ll learn chain maille techniques, such as how to properly open and close your jump rings and link them together easily. We will go over the different types of oxidation and which will work the best for the metal that you want antiqued. Then you’ll oxidize your piece and I’ll demonstrate how to remove the excess oxidation to bring your bracelet to a beautiful polished finish. You will finish your bracelet in class and wear it tonight.

Make two pair of beautiful antiqued earrings. You will learn how to pick solder with a micro torch using paste solder, as well as oxidizing your earrings or having a beautiful polished finish.
