Today we have a quick tip about keeping chain from getting tangled. This is a great quick tip, so let me know what you think of it!

Albina says:

Chain Card: To keep the chain neat and kink-free, wrap it around a business card.

How To: Cut two notches at opposite edges of the card and secure the ends in the notches. You may want to label the card with information about source, size, the price, item number.

Variation: Instead of thin business card, I use an old plastic card such as a gift card, a credit card, a membership card. Also, I peel the label from the vendor’s plastic package and place it on the card. So, I have all info about this chain.

I hope that you enjoyed this quick tip from Albina. Keep watching for more great tips like this from all of our contributors!

That’s a great idea I’ve dealt with tangled chains and will give this a try!

I was a sewer for four decades before I got into wire wrapping. After working with rick-rack, seam binding, and lace, wrapping chain on to a card only seemed natural. I don’t use plastic, though. Any cardboard with slight stiffness will work just fine. I make a slit about a half inch from one end, insert the chain, and wrap it lengthwise around the card. A second slit on the opposite end will hold the end of the chain. One day, I was in a rush and grabbed a plastic straw, made a slit in the top, inserted the chain, wrapped it around the straw (being careful not to overlap the wraps), and inserted the chain end in a second slit on the bottom of the straw- takes up less space too!
