Highlights of the Free Tube-Set Charm Lesson

This cute little project comes in at under 25 minutes – and yet you might end up making this piece over and over and over as you find so many fun uses for it!

Tube cup settings are perfect for setting beautiful faceted stones and CZs… simply solder the setting onto a metal stamping for a quick and fun pendant.

You’ll use the following:

And the Deluxe Soldering Kit – all the tools you need in one kit!

Materials:

Here are some cool things I love about this project…

  • You can solder your tube setting straight onto silver-filled stampings… they don’t have to be solid sterling silver!
  • You get to visually see what size stone matches a tube setting.
  • I always love looking at what people improvise for creating texture: Kim uses a nail punch to get the bubbly shapes on this heart!

  • Also borrowing from the carpentry world, Kim shows us how to remove a burr with a drill bit at 12:27
  • Not only do we get to see how to make a jump ring – but also how to solder it shut without affecting the rest of the piece! Check it out at 14:05. I love Kim’s tip about using a soldering block soft enough that you can actually wedge your piece into it as an anchor!

  • We get to see the hammerhead attachment in the micromotor. So you can set your stone securely for peace of mind in this tool

Well – what’s your FAVORITE project of Kim’s that we’ve looked at? A riveted cabochon ring? A tube-set charm? The spoon-set bezel pendant? Let us know in the comments below – and make sure and share your photos when you make a piece from this series. I can’t wait to see what you make!

Kim, thank you so very much for your detailed DVD series Introduction to Stone Setting! I really am excited to begin using these techniques you’ve shown exactly what I need and how to use these tools and components. I have a question regarding copper.
My husband owns and operates an HVAC (heating & air conditioning) business. We recycle our old equipment and motors. Within these I have a treasure trove of reclaimed copper wires, coated and bare that are in varying gauges. I have recently reclaimed some very nice copper tubing! I am looking forward to working it into some unique designs. I am concerned with whether this copper can be used for jewelry and accessories. Is is too work hardened to use with these techniques?
