Question:

How do you make a frame for a stone with a sharp point at the bottom?

Answer:

To make a frame for a stone that has a sharp point at its end, prepare your frame bundle and when planning the side wraps (depending on the size of the stone) either place them about 1/16 or 1/8 away from and on each side of the center and use flat-nose pliers with a very thin jaw to make the center bend. Then when framing, use a knife to fold the unwrapped frame section up and over the point, locking the base of the stone into the frame. Or, completely wrap the bottom center of the frame, again use thin flat-nose to make a crisp angle where the point of the stone will be, and make the frame pulls above the center wrap, on each side. Remember that the ‘point’ will not actually fit into the frame without adding a bit of a curve to each side of the center bend, if you want the frame to fit tightly along the sides of the stone.

    Hi Cougar from one of your former students. Gary and I are doing great. I am still twisting and torturing wire. I would love you to discuss the method of using square wire as the binding wire as opposed to half round and how to keep the wire flat. Linda Olsen

    LOL!

    When I first received Dale’s dvd (sold by JTV.com and given to me as a gift a few years ago) I didn’t want to start out with an ovel for my first project. I had received the dvd as part of a kit, which also included 1,000 ctw of nice cabs, and there were two small, matching labradorite cabs for earrings and I wanted to make a pendant that matched my first set of earrings. I chose an oddly-shaped cab for a pendant, the results of which were ‘interesting’. I need better lighting, but one thing at a time. :)
    The people here are awesome, by the way.
