Basic Wire Wrapping Formulas

Have you ever wondered how to get the most accurate measurements when making a wire bracelet or just need to know how much wire it takes to wrap a pendant ?

Today our tips come from our Entire Intermediate DVD Series and just might take the guess work out of your next projects.  You can learn all about this and more in our Entire Intermediate DVD Series.

Basic Wire Bracelet Formula:

• Basic Wire Bracelet Formula: circumference of wrist + ½” = length of wires needed
• Recommended 22-, 21-, or 20-gauge square half hard wire for both main construction and wrap wires
• Wraps needed = minimum of 5 wraps in each location

This is to assist you in creating a Beaded Clasp Bangle Bracelet like the one pictured. We feature this Bracelet as Project 1 in our Entire Intermediate Series.

Framed Pendant Chart:

The basic chart below will help guide you in understanding the distance between wire wraps when you are making a framed pendant like the one featured on Disc 3 of our Entire Intermediate Series.

Trying to find the simple slide bracelet pattern from last week or the one before. Do you know what I am talking about?

So wonderful to see and be able to refer to the wire-wrapping Formulas. It surely will make life easier for some of us. Thanks for posting this.

When you make your first wrapped section, start with a measured piece of half-round wire – say 10cm or 15cm. After completing the first wrap and cutting the wire, measure what remains. Subtract that length from the intial measured amount and you will know how much wire you need for each wrapped section, and whether you really can use that left-over piece of wire or whether it will be a bit short.
